Expert handling of contaminated glazing
In many historic glazings and window constructions, asbestos-containing materials were used from around 1950 to 1993, including in window putty, seals and various period jointing materials. Particularly in restoration and refurbishment work on historic windows, handling these pollutants is today an important technical and safety-related task.
Since 2025, companies have a legal obligation (German Hazardous Substances Ordinance, Sections 5a and 6) to test the putties used for asbestos fibres before starting refurbishment, in order to plan suitable measures.
The Glasmalerei Dr. H. Oidtmann has specially trained staff for the proper handling of asbestos-contaminated glazing and components. For a wide range of requirements, we develop individual and safe solutions. From examining existing constructions to expert refurbishment and disposal.
To carry out work under optimal conditions, a dedicated workshop area was converted specifically for asbestos work and equipped accordingly. This makes our company one of the first specialised glass workshops to consistently align a complete working area with the requirements of contaminated restoration work.
The combination of conservation experience, technical equipment and qualified staff enables safe and heritage-appropriate execution even for complex refurbishment projects.
