Protective glazing

Protecting historic stained glass

The development and execution of protective glazing has been one of the central specialist fields of the Glasmalerei Dr. H. Oidtmann for many decades.

Isothermal protective glazing serves the long-term preservation of valuable historic stained glass, creating an almost museum-like conservation in situ. It protects sensitive glass surfaces from environmental influences, pollutants and mechanical damage while allowing a controlled conservation environment directly at the historic location.

For over 125 years, our workshop has developed individual protective glazing systems for sacred and public buildings, for example in Lindena (1897). Each construction is precisely tailored to the structural, climatic and conservation requirements of the particular object.

Through many years of research, practical experience and scientific support, the Glasmalerei Dr. H. Oidtmann is today among the specialised workshops for protective glazing in Europe.

Our services include:

  • Planning and development of new protective glazing systems
  • Conservation and technical advice
  • Inspection of existing protective glazing
  • Structural physics measurements on glazing systems
  • Analysis and evaluation of climate measurement data
